Hello to all. I am very happy to have found my way here today. This morning a friend read to me from Mr. Moore's article in this month's Spirituality and Health magazine. It's an excerpt from his new book, and she is inspired by the idea of 'rethinking' the gospels. I am too. It also made me remember how I much help I received from Mr. Moore several years ago. I was in a very dysfunctional relationship and could not figure out why. Then I read about 'the work of the soul', and Mr. Moore's suggestion that our souls have important healing and growing work to do in our lifetimes - and that work is not always pretty, linear and/or logical. This new line of thinking provided immense relief for me. It allowed me to stop beating myself up for being in that relationship, and to begin trusting the process. I am now five years out of that situation, and I try to continue to see the 'happenings' in my life through this enlightened prism. I know I am more relaxed and happy than I have ever been in my life.

I have ordered the new book myself, and look forward to a supreme experience.
Fruitful soul work to us all!

Thanks for your two cents worth Deborah. I learned and grew an incredible amount during my five years in that relationship. It really did compel me to do very deep growth work within myself. I might well have struggled along for who knows how much longer, if the pain I felt in that rel. hadn't forced some very important issues front and center. Couple that with the concept of soulwork, which allowed me to get some psychic distance between myself and what was going on - and see things from a calmer, clearer vantage point. This, after a lifetime of pretty much being consumed by my emotional responses to whatever was going on around me! I feel very grateful. All the best to you on your journey. And to you as well Eileen. My new Thomas Moore book should arrive soon, and then I'll be happy to talk about it, too.

Hi Pam
Thanks for this excellent post. I am currently in a 'dysfunctional' relationship and it really feels like soul work is being done. One very conscious part of me wants to leave and thinks it absurd that I stay, another deeper part of myself wants to continue and trust in the process, as so far I have learned so much. I think it's about maintaining awareness, not feeling compelled to be with someone. Anyway, just my two cents worth.

Hi Pam, Welcome to Barque! Thank you for joining the forum and for writing this post. I look forward to hearing about your responses to Thomas Moore's Writing in the Sand: Jesus and the Soul of the Gospels. Although Barque members have diverse interests and focus on different features of Moore's work, I believe learning to "trust the process" is a thread that connects all of us. The 40-part course for Moore's book, A Life at Work is still open for responses in the Opus discussions on the forum. Please contribute to it, if it interests you.
