I understand that someone asked about my response to the New Hampshire primaries. I feel good about all the Democratic leaders involved. I feel most in tune with Dennis Kucinich, I like Bill Richardson's experience in resolving conflicts through words, I like Barak Obama's spirit and vision, and I think Hillary Clinton would be a very good leader. I have been disappointed in Senator Clinton's votes on the war and other issues. I know she's compromising for effectiveness, but her record worries me.
I live in a very small town in New Hampshire, and yet my teenage daughter heard Obama and Bill Clinton speak in our town hall, and she has a precious photo with Obama's arm around her. The day after the election the candidates had all disappeared.
I feel strongly about recovering the American vision and hope to come out with a book within the next two years on that theme. I'm thinking of an anthology of quotes by a wide range of people about the meaning of "America." It's depressing to run into anti-Americanism around the globe and know that it has been justified by recent events.
