Dear Michele, thank you for offering a way for Thomas Moore followers to communicate. I have read several of his books and have attended several events where he spoke. Whitehead said that ancient religion was based on a social ritualistic structure whereas modern religion comes out of the life of the martyrs, that is, a personal relationship to God rather than one established from being a member of a group. I believe that Moore's writings are pointing towards an individual experiential approach that spans all of human experience from traditional religion to atheism. Although this may seem like an oxymoron, his books have the power to include all of us by addressing what people personally experience regardless of their labels that they apply to themselves.
When my wife and I attended an event in Manchester Conn. I noticed during his talk that it was not about him, but rather about each of us. Steve
Hi and thanks for the welcome! I'll post comments next week that describe my intentions here. Right now I'm on a writing deadline and then out of town in the morning for several days. Suffice to say that I'm an avid Thomas Moore disciple, and found this blog just this evening while researching some of his writings on-line. I hope this space will keep me in touch with like-minded people, and perhaps be a forum to introduce my work to folks outside the Atlanta area as well. I'm currently seeking soulfully engaged folks who would like to contribute writings on Sacred Living. I'm the editor for a page of the same title on a new website called All Things Healing which will launch in the next 2 t0 4 weeks, and I'm hoping to be able to offer some of Thomas Moore's writings along with those of others of like mind. I'll be in touch soon!
